My work, Greens III, is a 26" x 26" watercolor painting on stretched paper which departs from my usual research-oriented work. It is one of the Organic Flora Series I did recently using blind contour drawings from plants in my garden. After transferring the outline onto paper, I used a masking fluid to mask out lines then painted a wash over the whole paper. I kept adding lines with the masking fluid in repetitive lines and washes of different colors until I was satisfied. When dry, the masking fluid was removed to "magically" reveal several lines of color. To finish the piece, I lifted out the background to reveal a stain of the previous pigments which softened the whole effect. This excercise was a wonderfully freeing process.
